Though we should be proud of our teachers and family lineage/history, it really doesn't make you or your skill any better.
All styles have their heroes, masters, and of course founders. At the same time they had good and poor stylists and teachers.
Checking a teacher's credentials may be important, but more important is if they were a good student, skillful, or sincere.
As far as lineage goes, anyone studying Taiji, whether for health, performance, sport, or art can at some point trace their art back to
the founders and the Chen Taiji Village. Even if you're doing Yang Taiji, Yang Lu Chan was a student in the Chen Taiji Village and learned
Chen Taiji first. Chen Fake and Yang Lu Chan are recorded as awesome fighters. Studying these arts, or having a direct lineage doesn't mean
you will also be awesome or even good. It's fun and interesting in reading about the past master's accomplishments and life, but it doesn't
have value to you developing any skill unless you study the principles of the art and train, not merely practice.
